What's the latest thinking in Employer Branding?
I went to the Empple Employer Branding Festival - in collaboration with Not Going To Uni - to find the answer for you.
What's the latest thinking in employer branding?
It’s a question that kicks off plenty of conversations! And they’re important in giving employer branding a rightful status and influence in organisations.
And it’s one of the key reasons I set up Employer Content Marketing in February 2020.
So I was delighted to get an invite from the wonderful humans at the Emmpple Employer Branding Festival in Belgrade. My third year attending!
This time I brought Conor Cotton [MD of Not Going To Uni] with me - along with our one-man crew Tyler Hamblin - to capture conversations with some of the wonderful speakers.
We had Terabytes of video on the flight back from Belgrade!
So it’s taken some time for us to edit this all, but I’ve now got a great selection of conversations for you.
So consider this one of your playlists to watch as you take a step back and get ready for the next 12 months in employer branding.
Here’s the extended vlog to get you started.
On Day 1, we had a great conversation with Nicole Stevens. She was on stage talking about employee advocacy. So it was great chat about her talk. The conversation naturally flowed into influencer marketing and personal branding. I’ve known Nicole on LinkedIn for a good while now and it was great to meet up in person, especially as she’s based in the USA.
How does employee wellbeing impact profit?
When I saw that Ivana Stulic was speaking about this I just had to message her on LinkedIn and book in a chat with her. After some back and forth we finally managed to meet up on Day 2.
Employee wellbeing is often seen as a nice to have and employees just need to get on with the job. But the impact of employee wellbeing affects the bottom line of businesses.
Career sites? Every employer needs one, right? They can either be an under utilised asset, or a big beast that is difficult to manage. Either way, their role in employer branding is really important for that truly authentic window into an organisation.
So it was great to chat with Victor Rubin who has done a great job at BlaBlaCar making their career site a key employer branding asset.
And Victor was such a good chat that we got a bonus episode from him. This time it was answering another important question.
How do you set up employer branding for success in your organisation?
Getting this right will ultimately help grow the influence of employer branding and elevate its business importance.
How do you bridge the gap between employer branding and senior leadership?
I sat on the stairs in the festival on Day 1 and chatted to Chaib Whiteford about his talk. He said he didn’t see himself as an employer brander and that “employer branding is a business tool”.
Love it!
So I just had to get some time in front of the camera with Chaib about working with senior leadership to turn employer branding into that business tool.
In-person events may still feel like a novelty in this post-Covid, Working from Home age…but they’re really important in moving the sector forward.
So I got chatting with the EBCon Wizard - Sorin Olteanu - about the importance of in-person events and how to set them up. He joined Emmple as a fellow event organiser [EBCon in Bucharest].
I’m looking forward to speaking at EBCon in May for sure. Watch out for more content from Bucharest!
Get leadership right. Get employer branding right.
It all starts from the top. So how do you do it?
Matthew McGrath loves to talk about leadership and he was on stage on Day 2. So I managed to get some time with him before we had to grab a taxi back to Belgrade Airport. Lovely guy!
These conversations are nice and bite size for you, but I did have some more in-depth conversations.
One of them was in the podcast zone with Benjamin Kessler talking about video production - watch it here.
And I do have a couple of other episodes landing soon, so make sure you’re subscribed to get the drop!
Thanks to my fellow collaborators, Conor and Tyler. And thanks to the wonderful Humans of Empple. Katarina Šonjić and the team are always so welcoming!
